Noise pollution in the workplace

Noise at work does not only concern the construction industry or the automotive industry as we often think, but it affects many other professions. Noise pollution also exists in the tertiary sector and many employees are exposed to noise in their professional environment.

Noise in the workplace is a problem that falls within the framework of risks in the workplace, in the same way as psychosocial risks. The prevention of occupational risks is the subject of a specific article in the Labor Code, and as such, every employer has an obligation to prevent the risks incurred by its employees as much as possible. To do this, it must implement several preventive actions such as:

• Sound level assessment;
• Precise research of the source of noises in order to avoid them as much as possible;
• Information and training for employees;
• The taking of collective and individual protection measures.
